This was the perfect home for our coffee, our people and our customers in Tokyo.

We spent over two years waiting for the perfect spot for our Tokyo Roastery to unveil itself. We knew what we wanted, but like all things Allpress, if it was going to be done, it was going to be done well.

In early 2013 whilst riding our bikes through Tokyo, we stopped and peered through the gaps of an old timber warehouse nestled in the serene Kiyosumi Shirakawa community. We saw the unique space before us – abandoned, with sunlight streaming in between the slats – and we instantly knew.

This was the perfect home for our coffee, our people and our customers in Tokyo.

After rebuilding the following year, the Tokyo Roastery & Café now stands as a carefully restored space that infuses a celebration of its past with an exciting nod to the future. These days, not only is our Tokyo spot a place for us to roast beautiful coffee for our wholesale customers, but it’s a welcoming spot for people to gather, connect and converse. The Allpress way. Floor to ceiling windows between the high ceilings of the roastery and café create a working industrial atmosphere so that each area feels part of the other and there is a strong sense of connectivity throughout.

After enjoying a coffee in the Tokyo café, there is an open invite to all visitors to learn about what is going on behind the glass in our roastery. The space also doubles as a home for our technical, training and sales team. A hub of knowledge and activity that we’re proud to call ours.

We’ve been welcomed into the unique and ever-growing Kiyosumi Shirakawa neighbourhood with open arms. It’s a coffee-loving community that fosters creativity and new ideas. And one that allows young creative businesses to exist in symbiosis with those that have been here for decades, even centuries – a concept we couldn’t agree with more, really.

People, places and communities like this make it all worth that two year wait. We look forward to welcoming you to our Tokyo Roastery & Café.
